Wild Hope: Catalyst for Change
August 31 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
This event will begin with the screening of Wild Hope, an award-winning documentary film that tells the story of our deep spiritual connections to the natural world, a connection that has the power to rewire our brains, take us back to our deepest roots, and change how we think and act in a world needing our card. This 35-minute film, that also focuses on the benefits of preserving wild lands, will be followed by a Q&A with the film’s executive director, Suez Jacobson.
The film and discussion will be followed by a 15 minute BLM wildlands slideshow by Wild Connections’ Conservation Director, John Sztukowski, highlighting BLM’s wilderness quality local public lands, BLM’s open public period, draft management plan, and how this will affect our communities. This plan, initially formulated by BLM’s Royal Gorge Field Office with input from the public and local cooperators, was recently overhauled by the US Department of Interior and this Energy First administration, who have drastically reduced proposed and existing protections in BLM’s preferred alternative for the Royal Gorge Field Office. Learn about what is happening on our local public lands and what you can do about it!
There will be free food catered by King Kaeng, a cash bar, and BLM comment guides and information sheets available. This free event is sponsored by Wild Connections, Friends of Browns Canyon, 350 Central Colorado, Colorado Headwaters, GARNA, Sierra Club Sangre de Cristo Group, and Trout Unlimited Collegiate Peaks Chapter.
Doors open at 6:30 PM; Event starts at 7:00 PM. There will be ample time before and after the film and slideshow to construct a public comment to the BLM!
