Salida Bike Fest Kick Off – Travelogue
September 14, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm$5
Kick off the 6th Annual Salida Bike Fest with this special edition of Salida Recreation’s popular travelogue series. Entry fee of $5 per person. Cash bar will be available.
The travelogue presentation will feature a panel of three incredible long-distance cyclists. The panel includes Aaron Weinsheimer, Kent Davidson, and Janie Hayes. Come listen to their incredible stories of their journeys on two wheels.
The Salida Cycling Club will be on hand with information about the club and their rides, as well as raffling off bike jerseys. Every entry will receive one raffle ticket.
Janie Hayes just completed her second Trans Am Bike Race – “The Trans Am Bike Race is a 4,300 mile self supported road race following the Trans America Bike Trail across 10 states from Oregon to Virginia. After completing the Trans Am in 22 days 11 hours in 2016, this was my second attempt at the race. I finished in 19 days 8 hours and was 3rd place out of 135 starters. I’ll be sharing my experiences from this year – my preparation, goals, and stories from the road (including the Kentucky pitbull that took a piece out of my leg).”
This summer Aaron Weinsheimer completed the first annual American Trail Race, a 5,000 mile self-supported bikepacking race crossing the USA along the off-road Trans America Trail. The route traveled from North Carolina to Oregon and Aaron completed the grueling race in 45 days and 17 hours. Aaron is an experienced bikepacker, having raced the Tour Divide in 2012 and completed the Colorado Trail Race twice. In 2016, Aaron became only the third person to complete the Continental Divide Hiking Trail on a bike.
