LIGHTNIN’ WILLIE – DANCE LIKE NOBODY’S WATCHING TOUR
Tickets available here. $12/advance and $15/door.
Emerging from the clubs, bars, and festivals of the Blues scene, Lightnin’ Willie has been playing, composing original songs and touring for over twenty five years. He orchestrates a delicately balanced show, with powerful blues, rich vocals, guitar playing in the style of T-Bone Walker, Albert King, BB King to name a few of the many greats who have preceded him. His in-your-face approach includes traditional blues mixed with wit, style, and an over-riding love of playing the “Devil’s Music.” Using an eclectic blend of American roots music he gives an off the charts, well rounded high-octane show the way aficionados of the genre like it: hard, sensitive, raw and true to the masters of this American art form.
Lightnin’ Willie has worked his magic at Blues festivals in Europe and the U.S. including the Edinburgh Blues Festival where he headlined with former Rolling Stone Mick Taylor, Charlie Musslewhite, Eric Burdon, Stanley Blues Festival, Maryport Blues Festival, Brecon Jazz Festival, Royal Albert Hall “Ignite Series”, Zottergem Blues Festival (Belgium), Bardies Festival (France), Portland’s Riverfront Blues Festival (U.S.), Gray Sky Blues Festival (U.S.) and Willie Nelson’s Annual 4th of July Picnic in Fort Worth where he appeared with Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, Doobie Brothers, Billy Joe Shaver, Los Lonely Boys, and Leon Russell. Opening for such legends as John Mayall, Junior Wells, Robben Ford, Chicago Blues All-Stars has given Willie a direct insight on how to deliver with no frills.
Revues of acclaim from publications like the Guardian / London (“The real deal.”), the Independent (“Highly Impressive.”), Blues in Britain (Big fun with serious musicianship.”), Blues Matter Magazine (“One hard act to follow.”), Los Angeles Times (“This band knows how to drive the train”.), Living Blues (“Hard to imagine a better evening of entertainment”.) and he was voted in the top-ten roots acts by the BBC. A recent article by Jonny Whiteside in the L.A. Times: “Los Angeles based bluesman Lightnin’ Willie has developed a particularly intriguing wrinkle on the genre, one that’s cool, airy, with a sinuous groove that infiltrates his audiences’ consciousness and invariably gets them on their feet. He has no quarrel mixing dancing with the Blues”.
Lightnin’ Willie’s original music has been included in soundtracks for: “Whatever It Takes” /TRI MARK, “1-800-Missing”/ HBO, “The “L” Word”/ HBO, “Route 66″/ LIONSGATE, “Final Cut”/ LIONSGATE, “Mysterious Ways”/ MIRAMAX and television and cable productions.
THE BIGGEST little BAND ON EARTH consists of Michael Murphy on Keyboards / Keybass,( Stevie Nicks, Joe Walsh, Chuck E. Weiss and the Liars, SwampDog), Jerry Olsen on drums ( Lowell Fulsum, Charlie Musslewhite, Zola Moon, Roy Gaines) and Lightnin’ Willie on guitar and vocals.
Currently recording his eighth album of all original material under the guidance of legendary producer / guitarist Pete Anderson (Dwight Yoakum, K.D. Lang, Roy Orbison, Lucinda Williams…) slated for release early this summer. Pete says, “Lightnin’ Willie writes great blues songs like the old guys did, but he’s not copying anyone. It’s very natural for him.”
Willie continues on his life’s journey of performing his music live and living his dream, be it high or low he loves every minute of every day. As he says, “I live for my own pleasure and I like sharing it with anyone who is willing to listen, I’m not trying to save the world I only want to take my audiences away from it for a couple of hours”
