Creative Mixer

November 9, 2017 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

The Salida Council for the Arts (SCFTA) invites the public to attend the November Creative Mixer at the SteamPlant Paquette Gallery on Thursday, November 9 from 5:30-7:00 pm featuring artist Max Ruppeck and musician Drew Petersen.

About the Featured Artist

Max Ruppeck painted his first watercolor in 1962 as an architectural student at the University of Illinois. He painted sporadically over the next 40-plus years and more seriously since retiring in 2012. Land/city/seascapes are his primary subjects and he also enjoys figurative/portrait painting.

Ruppeck shared that his general approach to painting is to lay in the larger areas of value and color using large brushes with as few strokes as possible, followed by highlights, linear elements, and textures added with smaller brushes and applicators.

About the Musician

Acoustic guitarist John Drew Petersen has been spreading instrumental magic around central Colorado since the release of his album “Faint But Visible” in early 2017. Altered tunings, partial capos, free harmonics, and “extended techniques” help this Cotopaxi musician/composer create tunes with layered themes and harmonies- like “National Monument,” a tribute to the Arkansas River- with just one guitar.

About Creative Mixers

Held every second Thursday of each month, the Creative Mixer is free and open to the public. It’s a casual, social gathering to share information about the local arts scene.

The Mixer is a great way to find new friends and collaborators. Free hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, beautiful artwork, exciting entertainment, and great conversation are yours to enjoy! Join us at “The Mixer” on Thursday, November 9 from 5:30-7:00 pm.
