CANCELED – Central Colorado Humanists: Sunday Science Program
April 5 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am
On the first Sunday of every month, join the Central Colorado Humanists for Sunday Science.
About the Event
Come join the Central Colorado Humanists as they feature their own CCH members and friends in a variety of science-oriented talks and discussions. Sunday Science covers topics in all areas of science, hard and soft, from psychology to climate change, plant ecology to NASA space missions. It is also a great opportunity to meet fellow Humanists, make new friends, and learn about new ideas. All are welcome!
Each presentation is informative and features a science topic understandable by both scientists and non-scientists. A question and answer period will follow the talk. Light refreshments will be available, and you are invited to bring a plate of goodies to share. And, in the interest of our environment, please consider carpooling and bringing your own reusable coffee mug or beverage container.
Doors will open at 9:30am so participants can have refreshments and be seated when the program begins promptly at 10am. Admission is free and the public is welcome. Please join us!
This Month: How Much is Enough? Recreation Impacts in Parks
The talk will present the effects various recreation activities can have on the local wildlife species and the challenges the US Forest Service faces when asked to create more recreation opportunities.
Stephanie Shively has worked as a USDA Forest Service District Wildlife Biologist for over 25 years now. She started as a seasonal on the South Park Ranger District right out of college at Iowa State University. This is her seventh year with the Salida Ranger District. She also assists with Public Information during wildfires and prescribed burns. Her interests include spending time with her family and swimming laps. Grassland prairies, sub-alpine wetlands and libraries are some of her favorite places.
The Central Colorado Humanists promote Humanism, a rational philosophy, informed by science, guided by reason, inspired by nature and art, and motivated by compassion.
CCH affirms the dignity of each human being and support the maximization of individual liberty and opportunity consonant with social and planetary responsibility. They advocate the extension of participatory democracy and the expansion of the open society, standing for human rights and social justice.
