Central Colorado Humanists’ Sunday Science
June 3 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
On the first Sunday of every month, join the Central Colorado Humanists in the SteamPlant Ballroom for Sunday Science.
About the Event
Come join the Central Colorado Humanists as they feature their own CCH members and friends in a variety of science-oriented talks and discussions. Sunday Science covers topics in all areas of science, hard and soft, from psychology to climate change, plant ecology to NASA space missions. It is also a great opportunity to meet fellow Humanists, make new friends, and learn about new ideas. All are welcome!
Sunday Science meets on the first Sunday of the month, from 10:00am to noon.
This Month’s Topic: Chaffee County Search and Rescue South
Speaker: Bill Sample, Chaffee County Search and Rescue South Officer.
The Central Colorado Humanists will explore the work of the Chaffee County Search and Rescue team of dedicated volunteers in the next Science Sunday presentation.
More than 100 search and rescue missions are performed each year in Chaffee County – from lost hikers, injured rafters on the Arkansas River to searching for downed aircraft or missing children and elderly citizens. These volunteers are also involved with activities including crime scene searches, wild land fires and natural disasters.
Bill Sample, an officer with Chaffee County Search and Rescue South, will speak about typical rescue missions, how the group is organized and funded and the art and science of search management and techniques.
Participants will gain an appreciation for this organization and its life-saving work and a question and answer session will follow the presentation.
The Central Colorado Humanists promote Humanism, a rational philosophy informed by science, guided by reason, inspired by nature and art, and motivated by compassion.
CCH affirms the dignity of each human being and support the maximization of individual liberty and opportunity consonant with social and planetary responsibility. They advocate the extension of participatory democracy and the expansion of the open society, standing for human rights and social justice.
