I was born in Denver and was fortunate enough, as early as 4th grade, to take the city bus to the Denver Art Museum for some classes. I have great gratitude to parents that saw, early on, a love of the visual arts.
After finishing college at University of Colorado with my “very practical” B.F.A degree, I joined the Peace Corps and spent 2 amazing years in Brazil. When I returned I worked for the Bureau Of Indian Affairs and ran dormitories in Nazlini, Arizona. I knew by then that I needed a “real job”. I was fortunate to be hired to work for a special education program out of Steamboat Springs. I then returned to school and earned my Masters Degree in special education from UNC in Greeley, Colorado.
I taught elementary special education in Colorado Springs for 32 years, working with many students that had similar issues to the ones that made my school years such a challenge. It was a wonderful career and I was able to incorporate art in to much of my teaching.
I retired and was then able to spend much more time doing my own artwork. My husband Tom and I moved to Salida about 5 years ago. The art community here has been a wonderful resource and inspiration for me. I am currently teaching watercolor painting. I enjoy working in watercolor, oils, pastels, relief printing and most recently with gouache.
Painting for me is an important part of my journey in life. When I am painting, either in plein air or in the studio, I am slowing down my life and absorbing into my soul some of what is around me. This life offers us so many incredible gifts. Painting brings me, emotionally and spiritually, into the present moments of my life and the beauty that is around us all. When others connect emotionally with my work, my love of painting becomes a vehicle for relationships with others. I treasure the journey that I am on. I am blessed when I can share any part of that journey with another person.
